Great games coming up in 2018

It is a great time to be alive with all these games coming in waves all over us. I am in London for a long while so my best bet for a gaming PC is overclockers.co.uk. Before I buy myself a new gaming computer, which will cost between 2000 – 3000 GBP, mind you, I am following the news about new games to play.

Let’s not forget I still have a long list of 2017 games to play and then I’ll be able to move to the ones which will show up in 2018.

From the video above you can see what great games are waiting for us in the next year. Since I am a fan of FPS/TPS, RPG and action games, I will be looking forward to games like Far Cry 5, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Monster Hunter: World, God of War, System Shock, Crackdown 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-Man, Anthem.

Since some games will end up having even 100GB in size I expect the graphics to be absolutely awesome. My monitor will be 1440p so I’ll have enough pixels to go around and see details.

Until then, I am keeping an eye on Tom’s Hardware for the tests they always do and then jump over to overclockers to see what the prices are. Of course I will go with AMD Threadripper and an AMD Vega video card. More than enough for 1440p gaming.

AMD CPU Zen, CPU vs GPU, SD cards

In sweet preparation of my dream gaming pc I am looking left and right in order to see what are the best computer components to get into that gaming machine. Later in the summer I’ll have the new gaming rig at home and I’ll enjoy some fine gaming with the newest games from 2015 and on.

Until I’ll get all those coins in one place I’m spending my time playing games like Skyrim or watching the X Files, the old series. And also learn as much as I can about computer parts. And also blog from time to time about random stuff, like IT/tech and science.

Now, should we wait for the AMD Zen architecture from their CPU line? My thought on this: don’t wait. Buy something good enough now, wait for the Zen architecture to mature 1-2 years and then see if it is worth it to use it. For now Intel makes the best CPUs, but AMD makes the most affordable ones.

Good question: why do we need GPUs when we already have a central processing unit, the CPU? Well, the GPU is a special purpose CPU and this is why it is used to process graphics. The CPU is a general purpose processor which is able to handle any program, not just graphics.

And to finis, here is a short history lesson about the SD cards: quite small, they pack the storage punch really hard. Small and cute:

Buy used PC parts? Why not?

Usually I’d refrain from buying used PC parts. You never know when they will fail. If I buy something for my PC, then I’ll get them from the store.

In any case, if someone is in dire need of money and wants to dive into buying used PC parts then Jay has a couple of pieces of advice in the video from above. It is mainly about making sure the parts look ok, are doing ok in initial testing.

Some info from the video:
– overclocking CPU/video cards is a-OK since the life reduced by overclocking is really tiny
– when you buy from the forums, make sure they have a lot of posts and that they are highly rated
– make sure it has documents and warranty
– make sure you choose brands which allow you to transfer warranty
– check to see if the owner is the first owner of the card
– ask why they are selling it
– request the picture of the socket if you buy motherboards (check for bent pins)

Happy gaming.

Video games: how to choose the best video card for your needs?

Jay knows best when it comes to video cards and he knows best not to say you definitively need card X or Y. But he does share some principles you should obey if you want to get the best video game card ever.

In the video from above he outlines thee things you need to look at when searching for video cards:
1. what monitor will you use – use this knowledge to match the graphics card power so that it can handle the amount of info the monitor can display
2. for how much time do you want to use it – if you want to use it for years on end, then choose a graphics card that is a bit more expensive.
3. buy on budget – budgetwise, make sure that when you create a gaming rig where the video card is at least 40% of the price.

In video games the graphics card does all the heavy lifting so you should be careful at those three principles from above.

Also, check out his other video with a review he made about Sapphire AMD R9 285 ITX Compact video card:

PC gaming: 3 GTX 970s vs 2 GTX 980s and what is M.2

Linus tested 3 GTX 970s vs 2 GTX 980s and found out that it is better to use 2 GTX 980s. Why? Because you won’t need to consume that much power with only 2 cards instead of 3 and the cards will not heat as crazy. Using three cards in SLI mode will result in the card that is positioned at the middle to heat up unnecessarily and make a ton of noise in return.

If you really have the money to spend buy one good, premium graphics card. The GTX 980 costs about $550 and the GTX 970 costs $330. Both use GDDR5, have 4 GB of VRAM but the processor clock speed vary and also the CUDA processors.

All in all, the GTX 970 seems to be the better option cost-wise.

Now, let’s learn about the M.2 the port on the motherboard where you can insert your M.2 SSD. Newer SSD can be inserted in the M.2 slot and you will have a ton of connection speed because of this. You will not need any wires to connect this SSD to the motherboard so you got some increased write/read speeds.

We have the specs for Far Cry 4 pc edition

Soon enough I’ll buy Far Cry 4 and I just read the pc specs which, in my opinion, seem a bit high if you want to run the game in optimal configuration. I mean, 8GB of RAM and using ATI R9 290X video card does not seem a little overkill?

Beginners guide to motherboards and what is a chipset

JaysTwoCents teaches us how to choose the motherboards more intelligently. Firstly, you need to decide what processor you will be using since the motherboards are strictly tied with the type of processor you want to use.

In the example above, if you want to use an Intel i7 5960X processor, then you need to use a motherboard like Asus Deluxe X99, which supports this processor, but which also has 8 slots for DDR5 RAM, 5 PCI-E slots, tons of USB 3.0 slots, a ton of other SATA 3.0 @ 6Gbps and also an M2.0 slot for an SSD.

Whenever you choose a motherboard you need to make sure you do not overspend on one where you won’t use it at its full capacity. If you’re an overclocker, then X99 Deluxe is your type, if not, then you can choose a lower end motherboard.

As a basic requirement for any new gamer you would need to look for a motherboard that supports:
– at least Intel i7 5960X or AMD FX 8370
– DDR4 – put 16GB in there

Then you can couple those with a nVidia GTX 980 video card or ATI R9 290X.

Also, what is a chipset? It is a set of two chips on a motherboard that control the way the pieces communicate with each other. Linus will explain what it is:

AMD vs Intel smackdown: Intel is better, but about 30% pricier

The answer is short: Intel is better because it has invested more into processors than AMD. AMD delivers almost the same performance for the same cost, however it is cheaper.

So, if you have money to spend, buy an Intel i7 newest generation. If money are an issue, then try to buy an AMD FX 8300 or the like. When it comes to gaming you need to remember one thing: the single most expensive piece of hardware needs to be the video card. That one pulls harder when its about video games.

PC gaming basics: how to set your memory speed and other overclocking basics

There isn’t really that much to say in regards to memory frequency in this pc gaming basics video: the newest motherboards come with UEFI, which is the successor of BIOS and has several options. In the gaming motherboards you can go to OC section, over-clocking, and then check the processor frequency and the RAM frequency.

What you need to do is to set the processor frequency to such a level that the computer runs smoothly. Some of the newest processors let you overclock them so use that function and see where the processor is stable.

After you do this go to the OC section again and then locate Extreme Memory Profiles XMP and then enable that. This will allow your RAM to run at higher frequencies than the default 1333MHz. If the RAMs can run up to 2400MHz, then increment from 1333 to 1600 to 1800 and so on until you get the highest sweet spot, where the computer is stable.

Now you’re ready to play the games you wanted to.

How to get your girlfriend into gaming

Tara Babcock is a model who loves gaming. She teaches us, guys who love gaming, how to get our girlfriends to love gaming too. I’m completely on her side as my girl isn’t very fond of games, but with the time she’ll like it. There’s no turning me back.

Usually if she cares enough about you she’ll let you game from time to time and if you care enough about her, you’ll spend a little less time gaming and a bit more with her too.

Happy gaming, guys!
