MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard and AMD vs Intel For Gaming PC 2014

Gaming pcs are good fow various tasks, but especially for gaming. If you have read about my dream gaming pc then you know these rigs can become quite pricey, but you could have a moderately good gaming pc for $500 too. The MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard, which has a review in the video from above, has Socket LGA 1150, very well suited for Intel i7 and 3-way CrossFireX and 2-way SLI ready. What would you want more? Well, a ton of USB ports, maybe, which it has.

Now, if you wanted to check whether AMD of Intel is best to use for gaming, please check the video from below:

AMD provides fairly close performance to the i series from Intel, but at a cost 10-30% smaller. If you have enough money to spend, then an Intel i7 is the way to go, otherwise, you can buy an AMD FX 9590 and you’ll be as happy as it gets.

My dream gaming pc – list of computer components for gaming

LOL, I’ve been a lazy blogging ass yesterday, but I made my wishlist for a dream gaming pc. Really. I checked countless hours yesterday searching for the best computer components that would build me a gaming computer. I checked AMD vs Intel processors and ATI vs GeForce video cards and so on.

What I can say is that the AMD processors are close to Intel as performance, but they cost about 10%-30% less and the ATI video cards are close to GeForce and about the same price range. Maybe some dozens of bucks more or less.

So, I created yesterday a wishlist in my Amazon account.

Here is my dream gaming computer – total is around $1440. It is not high end, neither low end. It is in the middle and I want to use this same config for at least 2 years.

Given the fact that the games that will be created in 2014 and released in 2016 or 2017 use the technology we use today or from yesteryear, you can conclude that I may be able to play even the newest games that will be sold in 2016-2017 at least.

So, here is the list:
Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-02 Mid Tower Gaming Case (CC-9011051-WW) – $58.46. Nothing fancy. No need to show off with some killer red-hot case with some extra LEDs all over the place.
Noctua NH-U12 S for Intel LGA 2011,1156,1155,1150 and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/3+,FM1/2 Sockets, U Type, 5 Heatpipe,120mm CPU Cooler Cooling – $69.99. This cooler is on the lowest end, but it does the job. Can be used on AM3+ motherboard on which I’ll put an AMD FX-9590 8 core processor
Cooler Master RSA00-SPM2D3-US SILENT PRO M2 1000W ATX 12V Active PFC SATA PCI Express 80PLUS SILVER Module Power Supply – $142.44. I wanted to use a source that has at least 1000W power as the graphics card is very hungry. Don’t really care about power consumption. Electric energy is not at such high prices in Romania. On total we pay about $35/month the electric bill for 2 computers, a washing machine, 8 light bulbs, a refrigerator.
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB 2x8GB DDR3 2400MHz PC3 19200 Desktop, Red CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R – $182.99. 16 GB of RAM DDR3 at 2400 Mhz. Do i need THAT much RAM? Nope, but I like to have as much space as possible and I want to be confortable. 8Gb is the sweet spot of gamers today. I may have overdone it, but you won’t me feel sorry as the seet spot might move i the future.
Seagate Desktop 3 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 7200 RPM 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001
– $102.99. This 3TB HDD is more than enough as I won’t do any video editing. Just playing games and maybe store my photos and videos I make with my phone. Nothing fancy. Also, no need for an SSD as I don’t care about Windows starting fast. I care about the games running like crazy 😀
Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card GV-R929WF3-4GD – $399.99. This ATI Radoen 290 video card has 4GB GDDR5 RAM. also, I specifically wanted a card with 512-bit memory interface as it will be faster than others on 256 bit or 128 bit. Also, it has 4k max resolution. Read why I chose GDDR5 and 512 bit: 128 vs 256 bit and GPU for beginners.
Gigabyte ATX Socket AM3+ AMD 970 Chipset 2000MHz DDR3 SATA III 6Gbps Ready AMD 9 Series FX Motherboards GA-970A-D3P – $79.99. This motherboard is suitable for the FX processor and is able to handle up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM.
Amd FD9590FHHKWOF Fx-9590 Oem Fx-series 8-core Black Edition – $340.44 right now. It is heaper than Intel Core i7 4790K which costs $432. The AMD FX 9590 is the best processor AMD has to offer at this price range.

Also, watch this video of graphics cards comparison from ATI Radeon 250x, 270x, 2080x, and 290x:

I’ll buy the components later on. So, what about you? what is your dream gaming pc made of?
