Veritasium: why women are stripey

Veritasium explains what DNA is and how the genetic code of women gets to be divided inside their body. The extra X chromosome the women have in XX, as opposed to XY in men, will play a role in how stripey the cells of a woman will be. If the X chromosome that came from the mother is stronger in a cell, then it will inhibit the X chromosome from the father, but in other cells the fathers X chromosome will dominate, making a woman’s body full of stripes with cells that have either the mother of the father chromosome as dominant.

You can better see this in female calico cats, where they have different patches of colors on their body due to the “fight” between those X chromosomes.

Also, almost forgot to mention the stunning graphics of the DNA in this video. 😀
