How small is an atom?

An atom is about 0.5 nanometers in diameter and a 22 nm transistor from Intel I7, for example, can contain more than 400 atoms in it. An atom is way too small to be seen witht he naked eye or with an optical microscope. You would need a scanning tunneling microscope to image the surface of an atom.

In this Ted Ed lesson we learn that the atom is so tiny that it it were the size of a football stadium, it’s nucleus would be the side of a marble right in the middle of it. The atom is small, way too small. Also, what is it’s density? Watch the movie to learn the answer.
