Study: bone density decreases in space

The decrease in the mineral density in the bones is caused by microgravity. When there is no more strain ont he bones to keep us up and keep us in one piece, then the bones start degrading as they will not be built back as they should under low gravity conditions.

The main cause, of all, is the fact that there is no more stress on the bones and thus the body does not allocate resources to strengthening them. The astronauts on ISS are, thus, exercising daily in order to keep the strain on the muscles and bones and keep them as healthy as possible.
