26 asteroids exploded in Earth atmosphere in the last 13 years

26 asteroids exploded between 200 and 2013 in Earth’s atmosphere and 7 among them were more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization‘s detection network of over 85 stations located around the world found the locations of each such explosion.

The question arises: how can we find out when the next meteroid will strike? How can we find out when the next asteroid that can wipe out a city will strike? The answer is: we can’t.

B612 Foundation wants to change all this with their Sentinel program, in which a satellite will be launched with the sole purpose of detecting asteroid that are bigger than 150 meters in diameter and then report this to Earth. Yay, B612 are good guys!
