How does a satellite orbit the Earth?

First, what means, in fact, to orbit a cosmic object? To orbit means that you are falling, but the high speed that you have will send you beyond and above the surface of the planet.

To orbit a planet means that you have a controlled fall. The high speeds keep you on track around a planet, but you constantly fall. For example, the ISS falls about 100 km over the course of 1000 days and they need to adjust every 3 years or so. That is, they fall more than usually. šŸ˜€

So, now you know what orbiting a planet means.
