Two books with interlinking pages can lift a car [science]

If you take two phonebooks and interlink their pages one by one you will get a pulling device that can lift a car. The friction between all those pages is so great that it can withstand the gravity that acts on a car. Wicked!

Paper has a ton of force as you can see. There were reports that not even bullets can penetrate a thick book. Vsauce has demonstrated this in the video above. You actually need to blow up those books in order to see the car falling. The friction force has a simple equation: F= µ*m*g, but it has many secrets.

In 2008 Mythbusters found out that you need 8000lbs of force to take those books apart. Amazing.
