ZeroN – gravity balls to the rescue [video]

ZeroN or Levitated Interaction Element is an MIT Media Lab experiment in which they have suspended a metal ball under a magnet. By using a magnetic control system the ball can be moved around in 3D space.

Also, using motion tracking and projectors they are able to do some nice effects, like a shadow based on the ball position. The ZeroN remembers the position it initially had and can be moved back in place or even follow a 3D path to the amusement of us. Very nice trick and worthy for a SciFi price, isn’t it?
